Empowering Women and Youth: ASPIRE collaborates with Mtoto Foundation to Launch “VUKA MAMA, VUKA MNTOMTSHA” Initiative.

The Amathole Economic Development Agency (ASPIRE), in proud collaboration with Chief Mtoto Foundation, officially launched the inaugural Women and Youth Empowerment Programme under the theme “VUKA MAMA, VUKA MNTOMTSHA” on 23 August 2025 in Cafutweni village, Willowvale.

Led by Her Majesty Ndlunkulu Nosange Mtoto, the initiative aims to ignite economic and social transformation by empowering women and youth through sport, skills development, and strategic programmes such as sewing, oceans economy, and other community-driven ventures.

The launch followed a vibrant multi-code sporting tournament featuring soccer, netball, rugby, and horse racing. ASPIRE played a pivotal role in planning and contributed sporting equipment to support participating teams.

The event drew widespread support and attendance from key stakeholders and dignitaries, including:

• Mnquma Local Municipality

• Eastern Cape Education Department

• ASPIRE

• EC Provincial Legislature

• COPTA

In his keynote address, ASPIRE CEO, Mr Avuyile Xabadiya delivered a compelling message to the youth of Cafutweni and surrounding communities, urging them to actively pursue educational opportunities provided by Government, including the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). He emphasized that education remains a cornerstone of empowerment and long-term development.

Mr Xabadiya also called on residents to prepare for the upcoming voluntary knowledge-sharing sessions on oil and gas exploration, facilitated by Impact Africa. These sessions, he noted, hold transformative potential for the economic trajectory of the region, the Eastern Cape, and the country at large. With oil and gas exploration poised to unlock new opportunities, he encouraged communities to engage meaningfully and stay informed.

ASPIRE has officially been appointed as the stakeholder engagement consultant for the municipalities of Mnquma, Great Kei, and Nqushwa, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive development and strategic facilitation across the Amathole region.

Eastern Cape MEC for Education Mr Fundile Gade emphasized the importance of aligning rural development with cultural values, highlighting education and sport as dual vehicles for empowerment. He announced the revival of school sports leagues to nurture talent and broaden access to opportunity.

Her Majesty Ndlunkulu Nosange Mtoto inspired attendees with a call to action: “Let’s go back to basics,” urging women and youth to rise, participate, and lead in shaping their futures.

In his closing remarks, King Mtoto expressed gratitude to all contributors and confirmed that the tournament will evolve into a formal league. He commended government efforts for visible improvements in infrastructure, including upgraded roads, sports facilities, and schools.

This landmark event marks a new chapter in inclusive development, where tradition meets innovation, and community-led empowerment becomes a catalyst for lasting change.
