ASPIRE, Amathole Economic Development Agency proudly participated in a dynamic career exhibition hosted by Amahlathi Local Municipality in partnership with Lovedale TVET College. The event, held at Mzwandile Fanti Recreational Centre in Stutterheim, aimed to empower the youth by providing access to knowledge, skills development, and training opportunities through public institutions.

The exhibition was officially opened by the Honourable Mayor of Amahlathi Municipality, Cllr Nomakhosazana Nongqayi who emphasized the importance of education stating that while unemployment remains a significant challenge, it is crucial for young people to equip themselves with relevant skills and qualifications to unlock opportunities.

The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to reduce unemployment and promote entrepreneurship among young people in the region. ASPIRE’s involvement reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting youth development and encouraging active participation in economic growth.

During his address, ASPIRE CEO Mr. Avuyile Xabadiya delivered an inspiring message to the youth, urging them to take full advantage of the opportunities available through government institutions, higher education providers and the private sector.

Mr. Xabadiya highlighted the role of institutions such as Lovedale TVET College, other colleges, universities, and funding bodies like NSFAS and SETA in supporting young people’s educational and career aspirations. Drawing from his personal journey, growing up in deep rural areas with limited access to resources, he shared how government grants, particularly NSFAS, enabled him to pursue his studies and ultimately transform his life.

He emphasized that education is a powerful tool for change, stating, “With education, everything is possible. It only takes that first move and belief in yourself.”

Mr. Xabadiya also shared that he was able to study abroad in China, thanks to the support of South African government grants, reinforcing the message that one’s background should never be a barrier to success.

In closing, he encouraged the youth of Amahlathi not only to pursue academic qualifications but also to develop practical skills that can lead to entrepreneurial ventures. He cited examples such as farming and welding, urging young people to consider paths that allow them to create their own opportunities rather than solely seeking employment. His message was a heartfelt call to action: "There are so many opportunities out there—but it starts with that first step.”

The exhibition attracted a diverse group of stakeholders, including:

• Amahlathi Local Municipality

• Lovedale TVET College

• ASPIRE

• King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality

• NSFAS, LGSETA, the Department of Labour, and the Department of Correctional Services, including other stakeholders.
