The Amathole Economic Development Agency (ASPIRE) continues to champion inclusive economic development as it moves towards establishing a Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Hub in Butterworth. ASPIRE Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Avuyile Xabadiya, joined leading stakeholders at the Business Incubation Web Association (BIWA) Workshop, held under the theme: “Ecosystem Perspective: Future Trends and Strategic Direction.”
The conference convened a diverse network of partners within the entrepreneurial ecosystem, including Universities South Africa (USAf), TVET Colleges Governance Council (TVETCGC), Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), Vaal University of Technology (VUT), iYuniversity iWalter Sisulu, Nelson Mandela University (NMU), Ikhala TVET College, King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) TVET College, incubation experts, and private sector representatives such as the Asher Group. Together with ASPIRE, these institutions explored collaborative pathways to strengthen entrepreneurship, innovation, and inclusive development across communities.
Speaking at the engagement, Mr. Xabadiya emphasized ASPIRE’s commitment to building sustainable platforms that empower entrepreneurs, nurture innovation, and connect communities within Amathole to resources and markets. He noted that partnerships across academia, government, and private sector are critical to shaping future trends and strategic direction for entrepreneurship in the Amathole region. He urged BIWA to Support ASPIRE and committed to ensuring ASPIRE’s support to the ecosystem.
The Business Incubation Web Association (BIWA) is a collaborative initiative founded by leading South African universities and development partners. BIWA’s mission is to empower innovation, transform societies, and bridge the gap between academia, industry, and communities. Through incubation programs, research commercialization, and capacity-building initiatives, BIWA supports startups and small businesses to scale, access funding, and contribute to regional economic growth.
BIWA serves as a convening platform for universities, TVET colleges, development agencies, and private sector partners to align strategies, share resources, and accelerate the growth of MSMEs. Its focus is on building sectoral clusters, nurturing township and rural enterprises, and creating platforms that connect entrepreneurs to mentors, investors, and markets
